Runners Brady Burrough and Ava Earl go the distance for South High at CIC track championships

South High distance runner Brady Burrough captured three individual victories by a total margin of 0.28 seconds to join teammate Ava Earl as the only triple winners at the Cook Inlet Conference track and meet championships.

Burrough won two races by 0.01 of a second and a third by 0.26 of a second, claiming the 3,200-meter title Friday and the 800-meter title Saturday in photo finishes at Dimond High.

In each instance, he leaned past a Chugiak runner to snatch victory. In the 800, he beat Jacob Lestina by 0.01 of a second; in the 1,600, he beat Michael Earnhart by 0.26 of a second; and in the 3,200 he got Earnhart by 0.01.

The Mustangs earned a measure of revenge by outscoring South by a healthy margin to claim the boys team championship. Chugiak scored 132 points while South claimed the runner-up spot with 93 points, edging Dimond by 2.5 points.

In the girls competition, Earl breezed to conference championships in the 800, 1,600 and 3,200 to lead the Wolverines to the team title. South scored 172 points, Chugiak was second with 104 and West nipped Dimond by one point to grab third place with 83 points.
