Dimond runners Jared Gardiner and Emily Erickson collected big-meet victories for the second straight weekend Saturday at Kincaid Park.
They won the 5-kilometer cross-country races at the Big 8 XC Invitational, which included runners from all eight Cook Inlet Conference schools plus Kodiak. A week ago, Gardiner and Erickson cruised to titles at the Ted McKenney Invitational in Soldotna.
On Saturday, Gardiner won by 27 seconds in 16:09 and Erickson won by 17 seconds in 18:52.
Team titles went to the West boys and Chugiak girls.
Led by third-place Isaac Main, the West boys placed five runners in the top 15.
Main was part of a fierce fight for second place that saw four runners finish in a two-second span. Aaron Power of Service grabbed second place in 16:36, the same time posted by Main; Dimond’s Nicholas Prosser was fourth in 16:37 and Service’s Justin Lucas was fifth in 16:38.
In the girls race, Campbell Peterson placed second in 19:09 to lead five Chugiak runners into the top 13.
