Anchorage Wolverines take regular season finale to sweep Minnesota Magicians

The Anchorage Wolverines completed the regular season in their inaugural campaign Saturday with a 5-1 victory over the Minnesota Magicians at Ben Boeke Ice Arena. The win not only put a cap on the regular season, it pushed the Wolverines into a third-place finish in the North American Hockey League’s Midwest Division.

The finish secured the Wolverines a matchup with the Springfield Jr. Blues in the opening round of the Robertson Cup playoffs. Anchorage was 2-3-1 against Springfield in six games this season. The Wolverines travel to Springfield, Illinois, later this week to kick off the best-of-five series. The teams will play Thursday and Friday at 4 p.m. AKDT.

Jackson Krock, Talon Sigurdson, Hunter Bischoff, Hayden Hennen and Aiden Westin all scored goals for Anchorage, which tallied all five of its goals in the first two periods.

Shane Soderwall earned the win with 25 saves for the Wolverines, who finished with 74 points. Springfield finished second in the division with 76 points. The Fairbanks Ice Dogs took the Midwest’s top spot with 77 points.
