Patterson siblings crack top 10 in World Cup skiathlon

Anchorage siblings Caitlin and Scott Patterson racked up top-10 finishes Saturday in a World Cup skiathlon in Pyeongchang, South Korea.

Caitlin Patterson placed fourth in the women's 15-kilometer skiathlon, and Scott Patterson was ninth in the men's 30K skiathlon.

Justyne Kowalski of Poland crushed the women's field with a time of 43:54.7. Liz Stephen of Vermont was 56 seconds back in second place and Patterson trailed by 1:21.

In the men's race, Russia's Petr Sedov won in 1:18:49.6. Noah Hoffman and Patterson both made it into the top 10 for the United States, with Hoffman 66 seconds back in eighth place and Patterson 88 seconds back in ninth place.

The races in South Korea are test events for next year's Winter Olympics, although many of the World Cup's top skiers skipped the races so they can prepare for the upcoming World Championships in Finland.
