Fa'amausili adds to UAA volleyball honors with West Region top freshman award

A stellar freshman campaign earned UAA right side-hitter Diana Fa'amausili West Region Freshman of the Year honors Wednesday in a vote by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

The 5-foot-10 freshman was also the Great Northwest Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year and the only rookie chosen to the All-GNAC squad.

Fa'amausili ranks fifth nationally among freshmen in blocks per set with 1.06, while putting down 2.82 kills per set on .258 hitting. She played a big part helping replace former UAA All-America right-side hitter Julia Mackey this season.

The award comes a day after UAA setter Morgan Hooe was named the region's player of the year by the Division II Conference Commissioners Association.

Both Hooe and outside hitter Leah Swiss were earned All-West Region honors by the AVCA and the D2CCA. Fa'amausili was an AVCA honorable mention selection.
