UAA hockey team loses 8th straight game

Tough times continued Friday night for the UAA hockey team, whose 5-1 loss to Bemidji State marked the eighth straight loss and the 13th straight game without a victory for the Seawolves.

Bemidji outshot the Seawolves 44-21, scored twice on five power plays and held them scoreless on two power plays.

UAA led 1-0 on Drake Glover’s first career goal less than three minutes into the Western Collegiate Hockey Association game in Bemidji, Minnesota. Grayson Pears found the freshman from Anchorage on an odd-man rush.

The Seawolves (1-13-1 overall, 0-10-1 WCHA) held the lead for about 10 minutes before Bemidji (8-7-2, 6-4-1) tied it with a power-play goal by Adam Brady.

Up 2-1 after two periods, Bemidji opened the third period with a two-man advantage and capitalized 44 seconds later with the first of two straight goals by Aaron Miller.

“I thought we had a strong first period, but we got into some penalty trouble, and it unfortunately cost (us) in the last two periods,” UAA coach Matt Curley said in a release from the school. “We have one more game before break to try to end on a positive note this first half and will give everything we can to try to make that happen.”

UAA hasn’t won a game since a 4-3 victory over Colorado College on Oct. 7. The Seawolves are 0-12-1 since then, a span that includes a scoreless tie with Bowling Green on Nov. 9.

Goaltender Kris Carlson recorded 39 saves for UAA, which plays Bemidji again Saturday at 2:07 p.m. AST. It’s the last game before the holiday break for the Seawolves.
