Letter: A self-created crisis

America dug the hole that is now the “homeless crisis.” The best advice: Stop digging.

Large psychiatric institutions have closed their doors. Cities and states have never made the transition to providing community care. According to the doctors at the Alaska Psychiatric Institute in 1972, group homes in the community would be the best solution. I agree.

A segment of America’s population, for a variety of reasons, do not have access to higher education. They are not going to be doing computer coding. America at one point had industries — shoe factories, etc., where people could earn a honest living and pay for houses and new cars. Many of those jobs and factories were shipped overseas or individuals imported with a higher education.

Sure enough, America has a “homeless crisis.” And it seems like America did everything possible to create it.
