Why is this one tree on Anchorage's Park Strip covered with ribbons?

About 100 victims of violent crime and those affected by it gathered Monday morning on the Delaney Park Strip to honor loved ones by tying colored ribbons, each representing different crimes, onto the branches of the Tree of Life at Ninth Avenue and G Street. The advocacy group Victims for Justice holds the event every year in coordination with National Crime Victims' Rights Week.
