An olive branch from Anchorage to its disc-golfers?

How many ticked off disc-golfers does it take to change public policy?

Jury's out on that one. But apparently enough folks in Anchorage's disc-golf community have sounded off on a proposal to close the Westchester course that city officials are prepared to publicly explain the decision. Whether they'll reconsider is another question.

Mayor Dan Sullivan tweeted Tuesday that he hoped anyone and everyone with an opinion on the closure of Westchester Disc Golf Course -- the most popular course in Alaska -- would get involved in public forums on the controversial decision.

Park users and members of the Anchorage public have lobbied the city to discuss the closure, according to a webpage setup by the Muni Parks and Recreation Department. Concerned disc golfers are reportedly organized enough to have coordinated a public forum on the closure, Wednesday, May 2 from 6-8 p.m. at the Lidia Selkregg Chalet in East Anchorage's Russian Jack Springs Park. The golfers have even invited Parks and Rec to participate.

Parks officials will hold a second forum on Thursday, May 10, at the Spenard Recreation Center, beginning at 6 p.m.

Meantime, here's a list of a few other disc-golf courses to go play a few rounds.
