Person found dead in Anchorage residential fire

One person was killed in a residential fire Friday afternoon in Anchorage’s Mountain View neighborhood, the city fire department said.

The Anchorage Fire Department was called about a residential fire in the 100 block of North Bliss Street just before 3:45 p.m. Friday, and arrived on the scene to find a single-story building “with heavy smoke coming from a window,” the department said in a statement.

Crews found one person dead while initially fighting the fire, the department said. Officials have not yet identified the victim.

Brian Partch, an assistant chief, said fire crews were already on the road when the call came in and were able to respond within minutes. The fire was put out quickly, Partch said, and there was heavy smoke damage to the unit. No one else was home at the time of the fire, Partch said.

The fire’s cause is unknown, and is under investigation, according to the department. Partch said investigators were still on the scene as of Friday evening.
