Man held on murder charges after Midtown stabbing

Update 8:45 a.m. Friday: Anchorage police have identified the woman fatally stabbed at a Midtown residence early Thursday morning.

Eva Edwardson, 33, knew murder suspect Kelly Frederick, according to a police statement issued Friday morning. The two had "had a prior relationship."

Edwardson's next of kin have been notified.

Original story:

A person was fatally stabbed at a Midtown apartment late Wednesday, according to Anchorage police, and a man has been arrested on murder charges.

Police said in a statement Thursday that Kelly Frederick, 33, faces charges of first- and second-degree murder in the unidentified victim's death. Officers were called to the 900 block of East 46th Court, near Tudor Road and Old Seward Highway, at about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday.

A criminal complaint against Frederick, written by APD Detective Ross Henikman, says a witness told police she heard thumping from within Frederick's apartment, as well as a voice yelling for help and saying, "You're going to kill me."

When the witness approached and told Frederick to stop, he first stood naked at a window of the home before getting dressed and stepping outside. The witness noticed Frederick had blood on his hands, and he told her he'd killed someone, according to the complaint.

The witness, along with a friend, then detained Frederick until police arrived.

"When police arrived they found (Frederick) being held on the ground by two individuals," police wrote. "Officers entered the suspect's apartment and found an individual with multiple stab wounds deceased inside."

When detectives examined Frederick, they found "fresh scratches" on his arms, forearms and shoulders, as well as blood on his arms, hands and right ear.

The State Medical Examiner Office was attempting to use fingerprints to identify the victim Thursday.

Frederick is being held at the Anchorage Jail without bail.
