The victim remained at a local hospital in the wake of the shooting, which was reported just before 9:15 p.m. by an employee of the Spenard Brown Jug store.

"Initial indications are that the adult male got into a verbal altercation with at least one other adult male on Greenland Drive directly west of Brown Jug," police wrote. "The other male produced a handgun and fired once, hitting the victim in the chest. The victim walked to Brown Jug for help."

No arrests had been made in the case by midday Wednesday.
