Bar employee trying to break up fight wounded in shooting, police say

A man was shot early Saturday morning at a downtown Anchorage bar after he tried to break up a fight, police said.

According to the Anchorage Police Department, the unidentified man was shot once in the upper body. The extent of his injuries was unknown, police said in an alert about the incident.

Police said they were called to the Gaslight Bar on Fourth Avenue at around 1:17 a.m. for a report of a shooting. There, they found a group of patrons who had gotten into a fight, during which one of them pulled out a handgun “and began waving it around.”

The employee was shot after he tried to break up the fight, police said.

As of Saturday morning, police said no arrests had been made and the case was still under investigation.
