Update, 8 a.m. Monday: Anchorage police identified 23-year-old Monica Jefferies as the woman who was fatally shot.
A woman was shot and killed late Thursday in a Midtown Anchorage parking lot during an altercation, police said.
Officers responding just before 10 p.m. to a residential property in the 3100 block of Cheechako Street, near Benson and Arctic boulevards, found the woman dead, the Anchorage Police Department said in an online alert.
A preliminary investigation found there was “some kind of altercation in the parking lot between the female victim and two other people,” police said in an update. The altercation escalated into gunfire.
