3 rescued after boating accident in Knik River

Three injured people were rescued on the Knik River by Mat-Su Borough emergency crews Wednesday night after their boat had mechanical problems, authorities say.

The boat lost steering and hit a sand bar, according to Ken Barkley, borough emergency services director for fire and rescue. Water rescue team members fetched the trio in an air boat and brought them to shore. Their injuries were described as not life-threatening.

All three – a man, a woman and a child – were brought to a small parking lot near the Reflections Lake exit off the Glenn Highway. From there, they were transferred to Mat-Su EMS ambulances and taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center.

The man and woman both walked to the ambulances; the child was carried.

Correction: This story was updated to correct a description of the incident as involving a two-boat collision. There was only one boat involved.
