Juneau man missing after fishing boat sinks in Southwest Alaska river

A man is missing from a fishing boat that sank in Southwest Alaska.

Alaska State Troopers say 59-year-old John Phillips of Juneau was missing from a boat that sank Wednesday in Nushagak Bay near the village of Clark's Point.

Jeb Phillips, 31, of Petersburg and a teenage boy also were on the boat and were able to escape.

The Coast Guard says the good Samaritan fishing vessel Amanda C rescued two people from the water and transferred them to troopers.

Troopers, volunteers in private boats and a Coast Guard helicopter searched for Phillips. The Coast Guard late Wednesday suspended its search.

Clark's Point is on the northeastern shore of Nushagak Bay, 15 miles from Dillingham.
