Events in Anchorage this week: South Anchorage block party, ‘Aural Imago’ and a free Blackwater Railroad concert

SoLo District Block Party — Shops in the SoLo area are throwing a party with demos from each store, like a fly-tying demo from Mountain View Sports, skate jams from Blue and Gold Boardshop and more. There will also be a beer garden, craft and food vendors. There will also be live music by Hwy9 and the Rabbit Creek Ramblers. ’Out Now: No Walls and the Recurring Dream, ’ by Ani DiFranco

Ani DiFranco: No Walls and the Recurring Dream — DiFranco will read passages from her memoir, “No Walls and the Reoccurring Dream,” and discuss the book afterward. Free. 7-8 p.m. Thursday Aug. 1, Barnes and Noble. 200 E Northern Light Blvd.

Live After Five: Black Water Railroad Company — Bluegrass-folk group Black Water Railroad Company will perform at this summer concert series, which also features family-friendly activities, food and a beer garden. Free. 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday Aug. 1, Anchorage Town Square, 560 W Fifth Ave.

36 Crazy Fists at Koot’s — Metalcore band 36 Crazy Fists and special guests Beyond The Tides and Part Time Super Heroes will be featured as a part of this Rock On The River concert series. $25-$30. 8 p.m. Thursday July 25, Koot’s 2435 Spenard Road

Aural Imago at the Thomas Planetarium — This show features kaleidoscopic images displayed in a planetarium paired with soft sounds from Anchorage-based musician Justin Ferguson. $15. 7:30 p.m. Friday July 26, Anchorage Museum, 625 C St.

Hip-Hop Dance Lessons — Underground Dance Company will teach the basics of hip-hop dancing in this class open to the public. No experience necessary. All ages and ability levels are welcome. Free. 12-1 p.m. Friday July 26, Anchorage Town Square, 560 W Fifth Ave.

Salsa in the Park — Move to Latin music at this social dancing event. You can either participate or observe and enjoy the liveliness of downtown Anchorage. Free. 1 p.m. Sunday July 28, Anchorage Town Square, 560 W Fifth Ave.
