EDM star Diplo will play Anchorage on Fourth of July weekend

EDM star Diplo ("Paper Planes," "Look at Me Now") will play an outdoor concert in downtown Anchorage Sunday, July 3.

The producer, songwriter and hitmaker is being brought up by Showdown Productions and Williwaw. The concert will take place outside on F Street with capacity for "roughly a couple thousand" ticket holders, said Hellen Fleming, events coordinator at Williwaw and a co-founder of Showdown.

Diplo first rose to international fame with his collaboration on M.I.A.'s 2007 hit song "Paper Planes." Since then, he has worked with a gamut of the music industry's most high-profile artists — recently including Beyoncé, Justin Bieber and Madonna. He is one half of the duos Major Lazer (with Switch) and Jack Ü (with Skrillex).

Fleming said that Williwaw and Showdown hope to stage a more elaborate production than is normally seen at an outdoor event in Alaska.

"The expectation with EDM is to go over and beyond with production and we take that seriously," she said.

Tickets will go on sale Thursday, May 26, at 12 p.m. at williwawsocial.com and showdownalaska.com.
