Juneau, Girdwood chefs shortlisted for prestigious James Beard awards

Two Alaska chefs were shortlisted Wednesday for prestigious James Beard Foundation awards, which honor the top culinary talent in the country.

Beau Schooler of the Rookery Cafe in Juneau was among 25 semifinalists nominated nationally for the "Rising Star of the Year" award.

Andrew Brown of Jack Sprat in Girdwood was named a semifinalist for "Best Chef: Northwest" regional category.

The awards honor chefs, restaurants and restaurateurs in 21 national and regional categories.

Finalists will be announced March 24.
