Letters to the Editor

Letter: Thanks for infrastructure votes

Shout out to Sen. Lisa Murkowski for helping craft the bipartisan infrastructure bill, legislation instrumental to truly making America great again through much needed improvements for Alaska and the nation as a whole. It is possible to break the partisan divide. House — please take note.

Thanks as well to Sen. Dan Sullivan for resisting the Republican penchant for obstruction and voting for the package. I see that Sen.Sullivan expressed concern about the potential for a $250 billion deficit that could result from this package, although it will provide for real work for real people who need the work. Too bad he wasn’t as concerned in 2018, when the Congressional Budget Office projected a $1.8 trillion increase in the federal deficit associated with the Trump Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.Billionaires did not need that tax break any more than they need a vanity joy ride into space.

Now we need to close tax loopholes and improve lax IRS enforcement that has allowed income inequality to skyrocket. Let’s bring the super-rich back down to Earth and have them share some of their proceeds with essential workers that put food on our tables and care for the young, the infirm and the unfortunate.
