Letter: No Ambler Road

My name is Lisa Lee. I am from Shungnak; I am a member of one of the tribes that will be negatively impacted by the Ambler Road.

My family and I rely on subsistence. We go to Qalugriivik camp near Maniilaq every year to seine for fish, we rely on the caribou, and we pick cranberries/berries every summer.

When caribou come around, they hang out right where they want to build the road; Ambler Road will change the migration of the caribou, and that’s not OK. This road will forever negatively affect our food sources.

I have a young son, and he tells me he wants to hunt caribou and moose when he gets older. I want him to be able to do this when he gets older.

This is our land, and we want to keep it untouched. I am saying no to Ambler Road.
