Letters to the Editor

Letter: Excellence in journalism

I enjoyed the Feb. 4 edition of our prize-winning local paper very much. I was drawn in first by the delightful and rare photograph of a vole, mid-scamper, out in the open.

What a sharp eye Loren Holmes has! Such a lovely picture. Often our paper has wonderful photos and this one has to be called out. Thank you!

The opinion section had juicy info on Iceland and how we in Alaska could follow their example in using our naturally occurring energy sources.

And most of all, I appreciated the letters about school funding. Though I do not have children, I delight in watching and encouraging young people as they grow. Cody Chipp’s commentary, “60 Cupcakes,” hit home for me. We are not as likely to see those construction cranes if we neglect the younger generation’s education. Not only our economy, but our community will suffer.

I ask Gov. Mike Dunleavy to please increase the Base Student Allocation substantially.
