Letter: Junior benefit

Reading Sen. Scott Kawasaki’s opinion piece about the proposed SB170 to extend the Senior Benefits handout — wait, what? Let me get this straight: We are sending monthly checks to seniors who had their entire lives to save for retirement, while at the same time we are closing day cares, Head Start programs and underfunding elementary education?

Start sending each Alaskan under the age of 18 a “Junior Benefits” of, say, $300 per month and watch how fast we solve the labor shortage crisis as working families steam north.
