Letter: Permanent distraction

The Alaska Permanent Fund dividend has become a major distraction for our state Legislature and nothing short of political bribery of our residents.

I would much rather see our schools have the funding they need (even though I am not a parent) than a PFD, no matter how large. Investing in the future generation of Alaskans will pay bigger dividends in the long run.

Want to cut the state budget? Dock the pay of legislators who spend their time arguing about the size of the PFD. Now that oil revenues have declined, I’m wondering why we still have such a thing.
