Ketchikan man’s body recovered from avalanche

A rescue team on Thursday recovered the body of a 39-year-old Ketchikan man who had been buried under an avalanche, after weather and further avalanche risk delayed the search for days.

The man, Marvin Scott, had been snowboarding with another man on Dude Mountain outside of Ketchikan on Sunday when a "large avalanche let loose around noon," Alaska State Troopers said in a dispatch earlier this week. Both men had avalanche beacons.

The Ketchikan Volunteer Rescue Squad safely returned to the Southeast Alaska community after recovering Scott's body from the debris field, Troopers said in an online report Friday afternoon.
