"This is truly amazing," said Mel Ackerman from a bench inside Mardanes Garden, a neighborhood garden in Ocean View that was part of the Anchorage Garden Tour on Sunday, July 30, 2023. The garden is named in honor of Mardane Connor, "Who transformed a weedy lot into a garden organized for the neighbors with individual garden plots and a mix of vegetables and flowers," said neighbor Rosa Meehan. "We donate food to the Food Bank on a regular basis so that we are carrying out the spirit of having it be a productive and sharing garden." (Bill Roth / ADN)
