Fletcher, Randall win Salmon Run 5-Ks

Former South High runner Aaron Fletcher, fresh off his freshman year at Brigham Young University and taking a few easy weeks in his training, easily won Saturday morning's five- kilometer race at the 18th annual Salmon Run. Fletcher, 18, covered the 3.1-mile race on city streets and bike trails in 15 minutes, 44.1 seconds to top the field by two minutes.

"Mostly, I'm just doing mileage,'' Fletcher said. "I'm kind of taking a month off right now.''

For a standout like Fletcher, that means dialing his mileage back to about 50 miles per week as opposed to his in-season 80 miles a week.

Olympic nordic skier Kikkan Randall, 27, of Anchorage, won the women's 5-K and finished third overall at that distance in 18:56.

Monica Ross, 44, captured the women's 10-K race in 39:30.3, and John Hellen, 43, won the men's 10-K in 37:27.7.

Race officials said full results will be posted at www.skinnyraven.com
