Parke shines in Utah

Juliette Parke of the Alyeska Ski Club crushed the competition at the recent Intermountain Championships for alpine skiing at Utah's Snowbird Resort.

Parke, 13, captured the overall girls title at the Junior 4 regional age-group competition with decisive wins in both events, the slalom and giant slalom. She won the giant slalom with a two-run time of 1 minute, 11.33 seconds that put her more than three seconds ahead of the runnerup, and she won the slalom in 1:12.48, two seconds ahead of the runner-up.

Parke's success marked the second straight year an Alaska skier earned an overall title at the championships. Last year, Sky Kelsey claimed the boys overall crown.
