Fight leads to shooting at home in Palmer area

A fight at a house south of Palmer led to one man shooting another early Wednesday just after midnight, according to Alaska State Troopers.

The two men were drinking and smoking marijuana when the fight broke out at a home on South Nissen Drive, troopers said. Apparently trying to stop the fight, one of the men pulled out a small-caliber handgun and shot the other in the torso.

A woman who witnessed the altercation and shooting drove the injured man to a hospital in Wasilla, where he underwent surgery and was later listed in stable condition, troopers said.

After considering the circumstances surrounding the shooting, the Palmer District Attorney's Office has initially declined to file charges against either man.

Troopers are not identifying any of the people involved. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation continues to look into the shooting, troopers said.
