Central Michigan raced to a big first half lead Saturday at the Sullivan Arena, cruising to a 65-48 win over Dartmouth in a fifth-place consolation game at the Carrs/Safeway Great Alaska Shootout.
Central Michigan's Trey Zeigler, a 6-foot-5 sophomore guard, produced game highs with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Olivier Mbaigoto nearly notched a double-double for the Chippewas, pulling in nine rebounds to go with 10 points. Derek Jackson (11) and Austin McBroom (10) each scored in double figures.
The Chippewas (4-2) started the game on an 8-0 run, capped by a layup from Zeigler. The lead grew to 16-4 after McBroom drilled a 3-pointer with 13:48 to go in the first half.
Dartmouth (2-4), led by 15 points from David Rufful, never really threatened to get back in the game. The Big Green struggled with shooting, hitting just 16 of 52 shots for a 30.8 field-goal percentage. John Golden was one Dartmouth shooter with a hot hand, hitting 5 of 7 field goals to finish with 13 points. He also led the Big Green with six boards.
