The search is on for a missing Anchorage woman who was last seen upset and leaving a campsite Saturday night, Alaska State Troopers said.
Valerie Sifsof, 43, was at a campground on Granite Creek, about halfway between Anchorage and Seward near Mile 64 of the Seward Highway. A camping companion said Sifsof got upset about something and walked away from camp about midnight. The other person looked for Sifsof but left the campground about noon Sunday after she didn't return, troopers said.
The initial missing person report came in about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday after Sifsof had not contacted friends or family, troopers said. The troopers' Helo 1 helicopter, loaded up with Alaska Mountain Rescue Group personnel, searched the Granite Creek area Wednesday. Search dogs were also reportedly headed to the area.
Sifsof is described as 5 feet, 5 inches tall and 120 pounds with black hair and brown eyes. She was last seen wearing a black "sweatshirt-type" jacket, blue sweatpants, and black boots, troopers said.
