GNAC honors Chelimo, Tanui

UAA's Micah Chelimo and Susan Tanui, who collected individual victories last weekend, earned runner-of-the-week honors from the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Chelimo won the men's 10-kilometer race and Tanui won the women's 6-kilometer race at the Western Washington Classic Invitational. Both are unbeaten in three races this season and have been named runner of the week twice.

Orienteering

Schwoerer finds way fast

About 50 participants braved downpours, flooding streams and rutting moose for a Sunday orienteering meet at Far North Bicentennial Park.

Toby Schwoerer was fastest on the 9.2-kilometer red course, and Chelsea Frehulfer topped all competitors on the 7.4-K green course.

Trapshooting

Trujillo is top shooter

Kailof's Jim Trujillo hit 563 of 600 targets last weekend to post the high overall score in the Alaska State Amateur Trapshooting Association's National Trapshooting Day at Birchwood Recreation Shooting Park.

Trujillo's best event was doubles, where he hit 190 of 200 targets to finish first.
