Anchorage Assemblyman Dick Traini has changed his mind about trying to make it legal for people to set off fireworks without a permit on New Year's Eve this year.
He had an ordinance ready to be introduced at Tuesday's Assembly meeting, but decided to pull it back, Assembly chairman Ernie Hall announced.
It was scheduled for public hearing on Dec. 18, the last Assembly meeting before New Year's Eve. Now, since it's not going forward, personal fireworks will be against the law this New Year's Eve.
Traini could not be reached.
Hall said Traini pulled the ordinance because of the Assembly's schedule for Dec. 18.
The Assembly passed a law in 2010 to allow fireworks, but it expires this week. The spread of fireworks across town stirred up controversy each of the last two years.
