Letter: Set education bar higher

The U.S. four-year graduation rate is 78 percent (U.S. high school graduation rate highest since '76, Jan. 21, 2013). Here in Anchorage, we are at 72.8 percent. While we should be pleased that in Anchorage we have come a long way since a dismal 60 percent in 2005, we should be fervent about making sure we blow that national average of 78 percent out of the water and reach 90 percent by 2020.

And, we should make a school diploma synonymous with a quality education that really prepares kids to be successful.

I am proud to be part of a community that takes this seriously and works on it intentionally — but we can do better. Learn more and pitch in!
