Six homers on the board

The home run race is under way in the ABL, with six players recording homers in league games so far.

The Mat-Su Miners lead the ranks with three homers, one apiece from Greg Partyka, Gio Brusa and Nick La Face. Michael Strentz and Chase Compton own homers for the Anchorage Bucs, and the Fairbanks Goldpanners' Jim Sinatro rounds out the list.

Pilots 9, Chinooks 0

Different field, same results for the Anchorage Glacier Pilots.

For the second straight night the Pilots routed the Chugiak Chinooks, following Tuesday's lopsided shutout at home with a 9-0 victory at Loretta French Field in Chugiak on Wednesday.

Brody Russell, who finished with three hits, three runs and an RBI, scored the first run for the Pilots in a four-run second inning. Kewby Meyer and Kevin Garcia each notched two hits and two runs, with Meyer driving in two and Garcia driving in one.

The Pilots scored all their runs by the end of the fourth inning, with starter Dylan Nelson striking out six in six innings to earn a win.

Goldpanners 4, San Francisco Seals 1

Fairbanks starter Nathan Bannister set the tone early Wednesday at Growden Memorial Park, pitching three perfect innings to put the Goldpanners on the road to a 4-1 non-league victory over the San Francisco Seals.

The Goldpanners improved to 6-4 overall and will take on the Seals again Thursday night.
