Snow blamed for Parks Hwy. wrecks near Denali

Slick, snowy road conditions Sunday night led to two unrelated accidents near Denali National Park and Preserve on the Parks Highway.

Two women were injured in a one-vehicle rollover at Mile 230 of the Parks just south of the park entrance, Alaska State Troopers said. Troopers responded at about 10 p.m. Brittany Davis, 25, of Pennsylvania was driving a 1999 Ford Explorer north on the highway when the car skidded out on a curve, spun into the southbound ditch and rolled onto its top, troopers said.

Davis suffered minor bruises and scrapes; passenger Vanessa Gayetta, 30, of California received cuts on her head. Davis and Gayetta were transported to the hospital. Both reported wearing seatbelts. The Explorer was totaled, troopers said.

Another driver escaped uninjured after her car went off the road at roughly the same time about a half mile away, troopers said.

Stacie Oaks, 35, of Denali Park was driving north on the Parks when she lost traction on an uphill curve at Mile 230.5. Oaks' vehicle crossed the highway and ended up on its side in the trees, troopers said. Oaks reported wearing a seatbelt. She was not hurt, troopers said. Her vehicle was also totalled.
