Anna Dalton of Anchorage, coming off dominate performances last summer in local road races, took her act on the road Sunday and flourished in the New York City Marathon.
Dalton, 24, finished 44th among women, and 18th among American women, in a personal-best 2 hours, 58 minutes, 29 seconds.
Dalton, a West High graduate, in June won the Mayor's Marathon in 3:09:00. She also won at least three half-marathons locally during the season.
Sunday, Dalton ran with metronomic precision, covering the first half of the course in 1:28:55 and backing that up with 1:29:34 in the second half of the race.
Dalton began running fairly even split times from the outset. Witness her first four splits for 5-kilometer (3.1-mile segments): 20:59, 21:17, :21:21 and 21:23.
Dalton averaged 6:49 per mile.
According the New York City Marathon website, Dalton also finished second in the women's 20-24 age group. tonight's game
