Colony 8, East 4

The Colony boys hockey team took advantage of an East team without a goalie Wednesday at Ben Boeke Arena, securing an 8-4 nonconference win.

East led 1-0 in the first period, but shortly after Justin Beverlin opened scoring, goalie Joey Quinn left the game with an injury. Quinn is the only goalie in the East roster, so the Thunderbirds played with six skaters and an empty net until they put goalie gear on defender Blake Henderson and stuck him in front of a net for the first time.

Henderson made 13 saves, but it wasn't enough to hold off the Knights, who got goals from eight different players. Steven Kempinski and Anthony Kolendo each scored first-period goals to give Colony a 2-1 lead, and the Knights exploded for five more goals in the second period and one in the third. Colony goalie Kevin Hale made 31 saves.

East's Laoli Tosi and Sam Stinson each scored in the second period, with Stinson tacking on another goal in the third. Beverlin and Jack Reynolds each finished with two assists.

West 14, Bartlett 1

Ilya Turchaninov scored four goals and the West boys hockey team hammered Bartlett 14-1 in a Cook Inlet Conference game at Ben Boeke Arena on Wednesday.

Paul Norris and Dmitry Hamm each scored twice for the Eagles, who led 4-0 after one period and 8-1 after two. Turchaninov scored the first two goals of the second period, to give West a 6-0 lead, and he added two third-period goals. West goalie Joe Chekan stopped 11 of the 12 shots he faced, before Spencer Robinson made four saves in relief.

Bartlett goalie Malakye Felix faced 64 shots, stopping 50. He also earned a secondary assist on Bartlett's only goal, helping to set up Mason Rafter, who got the primary assist from Raphael Turner and cut the lead to 6-1 early in the second period.

Dimond 14, Palmer 0

The two-time defending state champion Dimond boys hockey team produced a 14-0 road win over Palmer Wednesday in a high school game at the MTA Rink.

Brandon Sakumoto and Aidan Teilborg each scored hat tricks for the Lynx, with Chance Peters and Desmond Conley each adding a pair of goals. Goalie Ashton Good recorded eight saves.
