Prep hockey: Dimond, South post wins

Dimond 4, Lathrop 3

Junior varsity call-up Halen Herdon prospered on promotion Friday, racking up two goals to spearhead the Dimond boys hockey team to a 4-3 nonconference victory over Lathrop at Ben Boeke Arena.

Walker Hamilton furnished the Lynx a goal and two assists, Aidan Teilborg scored a goal and Chris Gardeline stopped 22 shots.

The Malemutes received two goals from Josh Clifton, a goal from Chad Horn and two helpers from Colton Meier. Ryan Ebenal stopped 30 shots for Lathrop.

South 8, East 3

Daniel Widmar scored a hat trick and four other players recorded multiple points Friday at Ben Boeke Arena in South's 8-3 Cook Inlet Conference win over East.

Widmar's first two goals came on the power play. The second of those snapped a 2-2 tie early in the second period and put the Wolverines in the lead for good.

Nik Stumbaugh added a goal and two assists, Cameron Klatt and Cayden Cahill each tallied a goal and an assist and Bryson Schmitz supplied two assists for South, which took control by outscoring East 5-0 in the second period.

East fired just seven shots, three of them for goals. Justin Tapey scored twice and Justin Beverlin scored once. East goalie Blake Henderson faced 42 shots, stopping 35.
