Anchorage police are looking today for a 39-year-old suspect who has been charged with killing a man and breaking a woman's jaw in a late-night fight earlier this month.
Kenneth Moto faces manslaughter and assault charges after police found Daniel Stewart Jr., 36, lying on a sidewalk in front of the Panhandle Bar shortly after 3 a.m. on April 19, police spokeswoman Jennifer Castro said in a statement.
Castro said Stewart was incoherent. "The male was not able to speak complete sentences and could not maintain a seated position without losing his balance," she said.
According to charging documents, medics responded and took Stewart to Alaska Regional Hospital. On April 20, he was placed on life-support. Two days later, he was dead.
Lavon Kittick, 27, was also outside of the bar at 312 W. Fourth Ave. on April 19. She was taken to the Alaska Native Medical Center where she underwent surgery for a broken jaw, charges say.
A witness told police that a suspect wearing a light blue sweatshirt punched a man, a woman and then Stewart before leaving the scene on foot, according to charges.
Police have not identified the third victim. Castro said she could not release additional information on the assault. "I'll be able to say more once an arrest has been made," she said.
Castro described Moto as 5-feet-8-inches tall and weighing 185 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes, she said.
Moto pleaded guilty to vehicle theft and driving under the influence in 2012. Four years earlier he was convicted of robbery and assault, according to court records.
Police are asking anyone with information on the third assault victim or Moto's whereabouts to call police at 786-8900 or Crime Stoppers at 561-STOP.
In a separate incident, police responded early Saturday to a brawl outside of a downtown nightclub at 333 W. 4th Ave., across the street from the Panhandle Bar. Three people were shot and one woman critically injured. As of Monday evening, police had not made any arrests in the case.
