Alaskan teams suffer losses at NWCART tournament

It was a tough day for Alaska's three American Legion teams Friday in the opening round of the NWCART tournament at Mulcahy Stadium.

Juneau, Fairbanks and Dimond all fell into the losers bracket of the double-elimination tournament.

Idaho 3, Juneau 2, 13 inn.

Pocatello (Idaho) squeaked past Juneau Post 25 with a 3-2 win in 13 innings.

Idaho starter Trevor Bowers allowed just six hits and two walks while striking out 14 through eight innings.

Tanner Petrie gave up seven hits, one walk and fanned seven through nine innings for Juneau, which got two hits from Grant Ainsworth.

Four Idaho players had two hits apiece.

Wyoming 12, Oregon 1

The Cody (Wyoming) Cubs plated seven runs in the ninth inning to cruise to a 12-1 win over North Medford (Oregon).

John Beaudrie earned the win, allowing just three hits and one run and striking out 11 in eight innings. Beaudrie helped his cause with a three-run triple and scored a run.

Montana 8, Fairbanks 4

The Whitefish (Montana) Glacier Twins earned an 8-4 victory over Fairbanks Post 30.

Jesse Walburn went 2 for 4 with three RBIs for Montana, which got a pair of hits and two RBIs from Vincent Smith.

Jose Sanchez led Fairbanks with three hits and an RBI. Terrell Ford and Carmon Teel had two hits apiece for Fairbanks.

Utah 9, Dimond 1

Utah's Zach Hansen threw a complete-game, three-hitter to lead his team to a 9-1 win over Dimond Post 21.

Hansen also drove in three runs and had two hits.

Preston Micheletto went 2 for 4 and scored Dimond's lone run.
