2 people arrested after 'suspected heroin' seized in Nome

Alaska State Troopers and the Nome Police Department arrested two people Thursday and seized numerous items, including "suspected heroin," from a house in Nome, concluding a yearlong investigation into heroin sales and distribution in the region, according to an online trooper dispatch.

Troopers with the Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team from Nome, Kotzebue and Anchorage as well as Nome troopers, police and a K-9 unit executed a search warrant on the home Thursday for suspected heroin sales, the dispatch said.

The agencies seized 10 grams of suspected heroin, scales, packaging material, $1,840 in cash and three vehicles, wrote Megan Peters, troopers spokeswoman, in an email.

Troopers are waiting on test results to confirm that the substance seized is heroin, Peters wrote.

Yvonne Adkison, 22, and Kevin Beamish, 22, were arrested at the home and face charges of misconduct involving a controlled substance. They both remained in custody Monday at the Anvil Mountain Correctional Center in Nome.
