Bjornsen bags more World Cup points with 22nd-place finish

Sadie Bjornsen of Alaska Pacific University's Nordic Ski Center bagged World Cup points Saturday with her 22nd-place finish in a 10-kilometer (6.2-mile) classic technique race in Davos, Switzerland.

Bjornsen clocked 30 minutes, 40.3 seconds to finish just slightly slower than two other Americans, Liz Stephen (20th in 30:34.8) and Jessica Diggins (21st in 30:39.6). Therese Johaug of Norway won in 28:30.8.

Bjornsen is off to a strong start this season and sits 18th overall in the women's World Cup standings.

Four-time Olympian Kikkan Randall of Anchorage, who like Bjornsen trains with the APU club, did not race. Randall is the reigning World Cup sprint champion and a freestyle sprint race is set Sunday in Davos.

On the men's side, Erik Bjornsen, Sadie's brother and an APU athlete, finished 48th among men in a 15-K (9.3-mile) classic World Cup race Saturday in Davos. He clocked 42:10.7. Reese Hanneman of Fairbanks, another APU athlete, finished 79th in 45:16.1.

Martin Johnsrud Sundby of Norway won the men's race in 39:39.7.
