UAA gymnastics team tries out new arena

UAA gymnast M'rcy Matsunami posted the highest event score and the highest all-around score Saturday in an intrasquad meet that marked the team's first meet in the new Alaska Airlines Center.

Matsunami, a junior, scored a 9.7 on the vault en route to a team-high all-around score of 36.6.

Other individual winners included sophomore Nicole Larkin, who won the uneven parallel bars with a 9.6, freshman Kendra Daniels, who topped the balance beam with a 9.575 and sophomore Julia York, who won the floor exercise with a 9.55.

Second place in the all-around went to junior Stefany Bryan, who compiled 35.975 points.

The Seawolves open their season next month with a pair of dual meets against Winona State on Jan. 8 and Jan. 10 at the Alaska Airlines Center.
