Teenage girl shot in leg at East Anchorage party

Police are looking for a person suspected of shooting a 17-year-old girl in the leg at an East Anchorage party Sunday night.

A gathering of 15 to 20 people outside an apartment complex on the 300 block of Bragaw Street devolved into a fight and shots were fired, Anchorage police reported Monday.

Friends at the party took the victim to a nearby hospital, where she was treated and released.

Police arrived at the scene around 10 p.m. Sunday. Despite "multiple witnesses" to the shooting, police said they were still searching for the shooter Monday morning.

The people who took the girl to the hospital were interviewed by police, said Anchorage Police Department spokeswoman Anita Shell.

"They have been cooperative," she said.

Shell said the APD is not releasing a description of the suspect. The victim's name is not being released because she is a minor.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Anchorage police at 907-786-8900.
