A woman died following a single-vehicle accident on the Glenn Highway near Peters Creek early Sunday, Anchorage police reported.
According to a statement from the Anchorage Police Department, officials were called just after midnight to the scene of the crash, where they found a woman "in critical condition" who had been thrown from the vehicle. She was taken to a local hospital, but died about an hour later, police said.
The woman was not identified by police early Sunday, pending notification of next of kin.
Police said a preliminary investigation revealed a Ford Mustang traveling southbound on the Glenn had collided with a guardrail, throwing the woman -- the Mustang's only occupant -- out of the vehicle.
The investigation was ongoing.
