Lumen Christi basketball teams eliminated from Peninsula Conference tourney

Postseason basketball is over for Lumen Christi. Both the boys and girls teams fell in Peninsula Conference loser's bracket games Friday in Homer.

Wasilla Lake Christian defeated the Lumen Christi boys 60-27, and Birchwood Christian downed the Lumen Christi girls 48-36.

In the girls championship game, Ninilchik defeated Nikolaevsk 45-35. Ninilchik also won the boys championship — a 57-55 barnburner over Seldovia.

The Ninilchik girls were propelled by Krista Sinclair (12 points) and DeeAnn White (12). Tyler Presley's 25 points and Austin White's 18 lifted the Ninilchik boys.

Both winners advance to the state tournament.

Meanwhile, Wasilla Lake Christian and Birchwood Christian stay alive for a chance at second place in the Peninsula Conference, which also clinches a state berth.

In the boys game, Lumen Christi went 1 of 7 from the free-throw line in the second quarter and fell behind 30-16 at the half. They only scored 11 points in the second half.

Jordan Auldridge paced Wasilla Lake Christian with 16 points and Brandon Stiner added 14.

Lumen Christi got a team-high nine points from Joey Brown.

In the girls game, Lumen Christi kept it close with a balanced attack led by Maeve Bakic (11 points), but Birchwood Christian's Haley Scott and her 33 points were too much to handle.

In other boys games, Nikolaevsk trumped Birchwood Christian 59-21 in the loser's bracket. Felemon Molodin and Jonah Fefelov boosted Nikolaevsk with 14 points apiece.

The tournament concludes Saturday in Homer with two games in the boys bracket and one in the girls to decide the tournament's second place teams.
