Alaskan singer wins audition for NBC's 'The Voice' (+video)

Anchorage, Alaska, resident and YouTube sensation JR Aquino won the approval of three out of four judges during blind audition on Monday's airing of The Voice on NBC.

During the addition Aquino preformed a cover version of "Just the Way You Are" by Hawaiian singer Bruno Mars. Aquino's voice immediately caught the attention of Judges Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine who had a moment of competition over who would strike the big red button first to claim Aquino's voice as part of their collective team.

Examiner.com reported Levin's response; the lead singer of Maroon Five cooed "I think it's a perfect fit my friend. I would love to have you on my team for sure 100 percent." Despite Levin's enthusiasm, in the end Aquino chose to join up with Cee Lo Green, citing honest constructive criticism as his major motivation.

In 2005, Aquino was selected to be on American Idol season 4, but did not make the semifinal cut to join the top 24. Since then he's been quite active on his YouTube channel, covering a variety of R&B and pop songs, and he currently tweets under the hashtag #TheKeenos, which has spent the last few days trending.

To watch Aquino, and see whom he'll be facing in the next stage of competition, tune into The Voice at 7 p.m. weeknights on NBC. Watch his post-audition interview from NBC, here.
