Census: Native-owned businesses increased

According to a press release from the US Census Bureau, the agency estimates that between 2002 and 2007, the number of American Indian and Alaska Native-owned businesses increased by 17.7 percent while total number of US businesses increased 17.9 percent during the same time frame. Receipts generated by all surveyed Native-owned businesses in 2007, totaling $34.4 billion, represented a 28-percent increase from 2002. However, the survey doesn't count tribally-owned or Alaska Native village or regional corporations or their subsidiaries.
