Photos: Make-A-Wish surprise on last day of school

Alex Bajoon, 14, reacted in disbelief as a video from Jagex Games Studio in England delivered an invitation to visit the home of his favorite game, Runescape, as a Make-A-Wish trip on Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Central Middle School of Science. Parents Raj Bajoon and Cecilia Torres Blanco were also at the assembly held on the last day of school. Alex, 14, was diagnosed with cancer and hospitalized for treatment last year. He had helped start a Make-A-Wish student organization at the school in a service learning class, "and then I got kicked out," which he now realizes was because his friends had decided he would be the benefactor of a Make-A-Wish trip. "They wouldn't tell me anything that was going on," he said. Classmates Annie Gonzales, Kamren Williams, Avalua Lauaki and Jacquez Mason made the presentation Thursday morning, offering a rap tribute and introducing the video. Hannah Moderow of Make-A-Wish Alaska and Washington said, "It was totally student-led. We just facilitated."
